Taboo Game | Everyday Things

Taboo Game | Everyday Things

Speaking Activities
A1 A2 General

A1–A2 Taboo Game | Everyday Things is a fun, low-pressure speaking activity that helps learners revise and consolidate everyday vocabulary through description and paraphrasing. By explaining words without using certain “taboo” words, students develop fluency, creativity, and confidence while practising simple spoken English.

How to use

  1. Show one slide at a time. Each slide presents a key word and several forbidden (taboo) words.
  2. One student explains the key word without using any of the taboo words.
  3. Other students listen and guess the word.
  4. Encourage the speaker to use simple definitions, examples, or gestures to help explain the word.
  5. For more advanced or confident students, add a time limit to make the game faster and more challenging.

This activity works well as a warm-up, revision game, or speaking break and can be easily adapted for pairs, small groups, or whole-class play.
